Bakery Essentials: An Introduction to Commercial Baking Equipment

Before your dream bakery can become a reality you will need a game plan, as to how to setup and manage your baking process to produce the best baked goods.  If you are just starting out a wooden bowl and a mixing spoon will suffice. But for a more commercial approach, you are going to need high-quality baking equipment.

 

Depending on 3 parts of the baking process we have divided our list into 3 parts. That is equipment for preparing the dough, equipment for baking it and equipment for showcasing it.

 

Commercial Mixer:

Every delicious and tasty baked goods start with flour and water. Along with other ingredients, you have to mix them well in order to produce a great product. Most startups commit the mistake of not buying a Commercial grade mixer, and prefer to mix by hands. Well, this is an especially bad idea, as it is time and labor intensive and does not provide consistent results.

 For making small batches of dough, a small countertop mixer is suffice. But for larger batches and constant use, this small mixer will not stand to the abuse. So it is recommended that you buy a rotating mixer with a stationary bowl.  Find out more here.

 

Proofer:

A proofer cabinet is another time-saving device in your baking process, a proofing cabinet Allows dough to rise quickly. Giving you a bread pastries and baked goods a consistent texture.  A proofing cabinet does this by allowing a consistent temperature and moisture catalysing the rising process. Divider, Sheeter and Rollers:

For medium-sized to large bakeries, it might be difficult to keep up with the demand. And if you are rolling cutting and dividing your dough with hands, your baking process might be extremely time-consuming and slow. This is where dividers, sheeter and rollers come in.  These baking equipment divide, cut and spread the dough quickly and efficiently providing the same consistent product.

 

Baking:

Baking is the heart of any baking process. Even if you manage to do everything else wrong, but your baking process is right, your baked goods are surely going to be mouthwatering. Depending on your needs and size, there are multiple varieties of baking equipment available. They can be the life or death of your bakery.  Let’s briefly look at some of the most common baking ovens.

  1. Convection Ovens:
    This is the most basic piece of equipment every bakery must have. No matter if you are baking a bread, cake or a pastry, a convection oven is a must. But sadly your residential convection oven will not stand a day in your bakery. As they are not designed for consistent and heavy use.

  2. Countertop Ovens:
    The most basic and classical oven, a countertop oven gets you started with all your baking needs. If you are not planning to bake more than 3/4 batches at the same time, a counter top oven is for you.  Although it might require consistent monitoring and a bit of experience on the hand.
